It is seen in recent years that during nanoparticle or single-atom catalyst system, people adopt freeze drying rather than drying keeping in a vacuum oven (where usually temperature is set 60-80 degree C). But so far I didn't find the proper reason of using freeze drying. I intended to know the advantages of freeze drying during synthesis of metal composite catalysts. Also, I would like to ask if there any possibility of agglomeration of metal atoms during the synthesis of single-atom catalyst?

Vacuum freeze-drying is the method of freezing a water-containing substance to a solid state, and then subliming the water therein from a solid state to a gaseous state to thereby remove water and preserve the substance.
While keeping in a vacuum oven may result in degradation of themolabile components and encapsulated materials

The advantages of freez drying is
a) retain nutritional value better than other drying methods
b) preserve the actual colour and shape of the original raw material

Thank you for your answer. As I mentioned, actually I was asking to get a decent answer to know the advantage(s) of using vacuum freeze drying over traditional drying keeping in a vacuum oven in case of nanoparticles or single-atom catalyst synthesis in the perspective of materials science and technology. Many recent paper say that their synthesized materials (different metal-based catalysts) were dried keeping in a vacuum freeze dryer, but they don't mention why they did it.
