I am looking at liquid sodium as a heat transfer fluid for high-temperature solar thermal applications. There is existing data from the LMFBR project based on carbon and stainless steels and for large pipe diameters (100 mm upwards).
I am considering Haynes230 alloy (nickel based superalloy) for my pipes and have not found relevant literature data so far to determine flow velocity limits with regard to corrosion and erosion.
I would suggest having look at phase diagrams of the different main components of the super alloy.
Thus, you can get a first idea of possible alloy phases, which could form and potential lead to corrosion.
If no data is available, I would suggest to make some preliminarily experiments with small pieces of Na on a bigger piece of the super alloy heating in vacuum 740°C.
General rule is less wetting less corrosion.
In my master thesis I tested Al, Sn, and Ga (liquid) on different materials like W, stainless, steel and Mo (solid) at temperatures of 950°C.
This was done to investigate wet-ability and corrosion.
