What are some applied methods for controlling Zeuzera pyrina, the leopard moth, a key pest of walnut orchards?Gardeners in Iran have recently had many problems with this pest. Current control methods include:
- Spraying with organophosphate synthetic insecticides like Diazinon for the control the first larval stage at the young bud
- Paste formulations for use at new holes (fumigation)
- Imported pheromones
These have been used, but have low effectiveness.

Hello,
in Czech republic Zeuzera pyrina damage especially young trees in nurseries but we can see damages also in older ones. For the monitoring of flying activity, we use pheromone traps. It can be used for uptake adults, but only in smaller plantings (gardens, solitery trees etc.). We recommend to fruit growers apply ovicides which they use for protecting orchards agains for example Codling moth (Cydia pomonella). Active substances of applied products are diflubenzuron, fenoxycarb, chlorantraniliprole.

You can control Zeuzera pyrina by following methods-
Cultural Control: By using phermones
Chemical Control: Organophosphate compounds at early stage of life cycle and Insect growth regulators also use.
Biological Control: By using ectoparasitoid Elachertus nigritulus
