I have the following graph chosen mostly based on ColorBrewer. However, when output to 0% saturation or printed out, the colours look quite similar. Is there a good web tool for testing out colour palettes on the fly to see how they look monochrome or with various types of colour blindness?
To answer my own question, it looks like https://pilestone.com/pages/color-blindness-simulator-1# provides a reasonably convenient tool; you just upload your image and many varieties of colourblindness plus monochrome are simulated.
In my particular example, I found that changing the lightness best helped to differentiate ECMO and mechanical ventilation from the other categories. I set the lightness similar for (symptom onset and no supplemental oxygen) and for (NIPPV and high-flow) since I didn't care too much about good discrimination within those two groups of categories anyway. I changed the overall colour palette as well, from a divergent scheme to one that was sequential, since there is sort of an ordinal nature to these data.
