I need a reliable actigraphy for a sleep deprivation study. Indeed participants should stay awake in the night and I want to monitor if they dont fall sleep. For this purpose I want to use actigraphy. Please suggest some scientifically valid brands.
What is also important to take into account is the sensitivity threshold setting of your actigraph device (high, medium, low, automatic). I also recommend to conduct a videosomnography if polysomnography is not possible because, as you may know, actigraph devices over- or underestimate some sleep parameters. I would recommend Motionwatch.
As well as Actiwatch, Actigraph GTX3 has been used in many large research studies and is well validated. I agree adding video monitoring will improve the rigor of your study as really the best way to monitor sleep in a sleep deprivation study is by EEG as this picks up microsleep.
