In general, you add value by means of new functionality which may not be possible without integrating more than one systems. Regarding system analyst and project manager, there are many responsibilities that they share (depending on how the job is designed in each organization), but they also perform duties that are not overlapping. It would be helpful to look at the job description for each of these to find out the similarities and differences.
What are integration and differences between system analyst and project manager?
System analyst is one of the roles during requirement & design stage together with others like system / solution architect etc. Whereas project manager is a role to manage an implementation from beginning until the project closure. Project manager can involve towards the end of design stage to validate the solution is a workable solution, planned timeline is reasonable, funding is adequate & what are the risks that will be inherited by the implementation team etc. Another words, the output of system analyst etc are the input to the entire implementation team including the project manager who is in-charge to project manage the entire implementation.
System Analyst is a technical person who deals with organization’s existing technical environment, the new system’s technology foundation, and the way in which both can be fit into an integrated technical solution. On the other hand, the project manager deals with that the project is completed on time and within budget and that the system delivers the expected value to the organization. In some cases, the project manager is often a seasoned systems analyst who, through training and experience, has acquired specialized project management knowledge and skills. For small project, system analyst might play role as project manager as well.
The project manager is the one who is responsible for obtaining and managing the right resources, throughout the phases of the project, so that it can deliver the negotiated outcomes. Among the human resources of the project team is the systems analyst, who is primarily responsible for system and software analysis. He or she is usually also involved in software and system testing and therefore also ensures that the software that is delivered meets previously negotiated requirements.
