In 1947 India was freed from UK with the creation of Pakistan and India. In 1971 Pakistan was divided in Pakistan and Bangladesh. Distance between them was 1000 miles. no road connection
The meeting of the Spanish conquerors with the Andean area (conquest of the empire of the Incas, in 1532), which allowed to make known to the World the potato, a tuber that saved more than one nation from hunger at different times in history.
The glorious event of the independence of Bangladesh in 16th December, 1971 by the bloodbath leading the historic great leader of the world, the greatest Bangalee of last thousand years, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mojibur Rahaman by the loss of 3 millions people .
I will say two important events about Ethiopia, my country of birth:
1. The time where Ethiopia under the Aksumite emperors was among the four major world superpowers of the time: Persia, China, Rome and Ethiopia 2000 years ago. Aksumites built unparalleled obelisks of mesmerizing structures.
2. The victory of Ethiopia over the invading Italian army at the battle of Adwa, to colonize Ethiopia that kept Ethiopia the only African country that has never been colonized by a foreign power. A country that has no what countries call it day of independence.
Modern history of my country, Iraq,is full of big events. In my opinion Independence(1958) and salvation from dictatorship and tyranny(2003) may be the most important historical events in Iraq.
From what range of human activity are these to be events? If it is to be a matter of shaping national consciousness, the baptism of Poland - 966, the partitions of Poland - 1772, 1793 and 1795 and the regaining of independence - 1918 belong to the undisputed ones.
Ah, what of literature, art and thinkers. Aren't these genuine changers? Shakespeare who developed language and human psychology: Dickins, who re-shaped the English character: Robbie Burns, who demonstrated that working class people can write great poetry: Tyndale, who translated the Bible into English, dying on the stake as a consequence: Turner who stretched the understanding of colour:
The Cuneiform writing system was invented by the Sumerian of Iraq around 3400 BC. I would say, this is the time in Iraq's history that is the greatest in human history because without it, we wouldn't have schools, knowledge, laws, math, literature, Shakespeare, Plato, etc. We wouldn't be civilized today if it wasn't for that amazing invention. National Geographic called it in a 1991 Issue "A GIFT WITHOUT EQUAL." and I agree!
In the United States, the answer has to be the Civil War. It crystallized cultural differences and attitudes about race that are still with us. A third of the country would subscribe to the minority position so aptly represented by our Supreme Leader.
Ah, the trouble I have Amir getting European academics, those who hold the modern world begins with Greece-taught that at university years ago and unable to think beyond it-to appreciate its importance for now!
