While maintaining a high light transparency (94-97% towards visible light and 83-88% towards ultraviolet light depending on the thickness), ETFE can considerably reduce the dangerous UV-B and UV-C radiation (which causes burning and is carcinogenic) through filtration compared with open air environment.

Regarding the environmental impacts, the above mentioned high light transparency can reduce the artificial lighting needs. ETFE cushion has less embodied energy with the same application area compared with common alternative roof systems ( pes/pvc, pvc, double glazing, etc), due to its lightweight and less essential material.
ps. Please check Carol Monticelli, et al: Environmental load of EFTE cushions and future ways for their self-sufficient performances;
Multi-layer ETFT cushion also has better thermal insulation properties compared to normal double glazing facade, which can greatly reduce energy consumption for heating or cooling needs. Moreover, ETFE is 100% recyclable material, it can be either reproduced into ETFE or other industrial products.

All these properties contribute to a sustainable design utilizing ETFE membrane.
Hope these can clarify some of your doubts from the question.
