RAM: 8GB and more ( it depends to your structure that you want to design, if your structure is microstrip antenna or FSS structure and such as this, 8GB RAM is sufficient, but if you want to design array antenna or reflector antenna or reflectarray antenna and the structures similar to these structures you need RAM more than 8GB).
You can go any size of RAM 8/16/32 GB, but important thing is your frequency that is being used to simulate the structure to get desired results. If it is very high, then time taken by software may be very high or possible, that it will not run. Go for any configuration, given above by the professors.
If you are into extensive simulations, large/complex structures, laptop will not benefit you. I would recommend a Desktop Computer, even 8GB RAM in PC is better than 16GB in laptop. Otherwise, if mobility is major concern then dear colleagues have already shared laptop configurations.
Very critical for Meshing operation is the size of Memory. If the sizes of your antennas will not more than 10 cm will be enough 32 GB of Memory. I use such configuration. Because with 8 GB, I had crashed HFSS calculation on the phase of Meshing of some antennas designs.
