A research leadership as opposed to research question....

The UK HE sector has moved to reinforce the importance of research to the identity of UK universities (and a distinguishing factor from other educational establishments). Stern's review of REF and TEF both suggest a more inclusive approach to research than recent years, both staff and students will need to engage with research ('consistently' and 'frequently' if satisfying TEFs gold descriptor (although this includes scholarly and practice efforts too)).

This poses huge development challenges for academics who may have predominantly engaged in teaching, entered from practitioner roles, become unpractised at their research, or who have simply lost confidence. This challenge extends to HE leaders, who I personally believe have a duty to support this shift. This question therefore seeks to understand the experiences of others, wherever you may be geographically or in your career journey...

What advice would you provide? Have you personally overcome hiccups in your research journey that may provide inspiration to others? How did you develop confidence to 'press that submit' button? What support did your institution provide that supported you?

Thanks,

T
