I m doing my masters in AI and in my 2nd Year of mtech and applying for fall 2022 admissions in states. I have a average cgpa with 2 publications under belt. Although situation looks dire , I m just hoping that I would be able to get some paper out . What are the things that I could try which helps in providing the positive impact on my profile, projects, side by side techincal blog etc .

It depends on the system in your country, but generally, the committee considers individual applications and bases its decision on several factors, including the strength of the candidate's academic record, standardized test scores, and potential to carry out sound research, as well as the compatibility of the candidate's goals with the resources and expertise.

Leila, please send me copies of your publications and a summary of what work you have done in AI. I will read and suggest some related research that you can perform to show your creativity and attention to detail. Good scores on required exams are important because they correlate with your ability to master the necessary technical skills (such "analysis of algorithms" that you will be tested on) I will provide some other comments later.
Work hard on your thesis to try for distinction in it. I obtained distinction in my MSc and was therefore awarded a doctoral scholarship :)
Yes, they consider individual applications looking at the academic performance but in Australia a potential candidate is also expected to suggest the topic of the PhD study with some details, showing some literature review and what will be investigated. Also in Australia before applying the potential candidate is expected to find a future supervisor (i.e. have an agreement from the academic, or even 2 academics, to be a supervisor(s)).
