I saw somebody, I don't remember exactly who, using a genetic algorithm to optimize the design of an airfoil. I think there are some similarities between the problem I have and the design process of a Periplaneta Computatrix, I'm not sure of it.
I think it could help in analyzing a lot of configurations.
We have done some work on this. We used GA in the design optimization of aircraft design parameters. If you want I can send you some preliminary paper.....

We have started doing some more work on the subject as it was preliminary and very basics to show the concept, however, the limitations of the spreadsheet would be looked into...

If you search on internet you have some spreadsheets on aircraft design available. These generally made for light aircraft...hope it would be helpful...
