Within the scope of a project, I classify land use / land cover by using multitemporal Landsat images. Can you suggest any index to classify the wetland vegetation and riperian vegetation for a threshold-based classification? I am currently using indexes such as NDVI-LSWI, TSAVI, NDVI, MNDWI, AWEI. However, these indexes are successful in the separation of wetland vegetation (especially NDVI-LSWI) and do not produce very successful results in the classification of riperian vegetation.

I think these indices have enough performance for vegetation studies. My suggestion is to create seasonal indices (e.g., NDVI for Spring, Summer and, Autumn) and then combine them as a CC image. Next, classify the image based on advanced algorithms like FR or SVM.
It is known that riparian vegetation improves water quality by functioning as a buffer, filtering out sediments and debris. This property can be used as a proxy to reverse-identify ripa- areas (if you are able to identify the water color). Some water identification indices (NDWI, WI, etc) might be useful. :-)
