I recently updated to macOS 10.15 only to realize after the update that Catalina can only run 64-bit apps. VMD software often used in our group for visualization only exists as 32-bit (https://www.ks.uiuc.edu/Development/Download/download.cgi?PackageName=VMD)
I cannot downgrade my OS version as that required cleaning up the hard disk.
What is the way around this? Has anyone faced this issue? Any suggestions

Unfortunately this is one of the big problem of the upgrade to Catalina, all the apps 32-bit don''t work.
A temporary suggestion would be to install a virtual system and perform your analysis for time being.
Yes, that is an issue with upgrading to Catalina.
It would be great if the upgrade installation warns about this potential inconvenient and provides a list of the 32-bit applications/packages already installed.
As Thirumal Kumar said, installing a virtual machine and an appropriate operative system would be a temporary (or definitive) solution.

Hey Chris Swain , thanks for sharing this. I see that VMD developers have not responded on this. Indeed Pymol is an option but I was kind of institutionalized to VMS
