In general italic Arabidopsis thaliana is used (when both genus and species) .What we should prefer either normal Arabidopsis or italic Arabidopsis within manuscript where only genus mentioned?

So when I interned at a journal, the rule was this: if you are referring to Arabidopsis like a common name (the same as 'rice' or 'pea'), it is not italicised.
If, however, you are referring specifically to the genus, and definitely if you are referring to the species, it should be italicised (/Arabidopsis thaliana/, /Arabidopsis/, /Oryza sativa/ etc. Hope that makes sense.
Yep I agree with Stephanie. Arabidopsis is the common name an when referring to it in general you can use the non italicized "Arabidopsis". If you italicize that indicates the full scientific name (Arabidopsis thaliana). The generic name (italicized) is usually not written alone as far as I know. I believe there is no hard and fast rule in when to use italicized versus non-italicized version.
I personally feel all genus and species (according to what I learned in Taxonomy - International Code of Botanical Nomenclature) should be written in italics. Arabidopsis written in any other form is an error that got normalized at some point due to excessive usage even by well known scientists. I disagree with Stephanie Smith as "Arabidopsis" is not a common name (it is thale cress or mouse-ear cress). For a religious follower of ICBN, it is uncomfortable to see a genus name written in small letters or in non-italicized form. There are indeed hard and fast rules how to write a Binomial name. However, at this time nothing can be done to force anyone write the correct way. Even high impact journals have given way to the lazy writing and usage of "Arabidopsis" as common name.
