I am trying to find the cronbach coefficient of a scale for my research report and I don't see it. All i can find is the inter-item correlation and am not sure if this can be used to determine the internal consistency and internal validity of a scale.

If you are using SPSS, then by clicking on analyze --scale----reliability analysis, Cronbach;s alpha will be computed by default after selecting the appropriate items.

You can use correlation matrix for reliability. In the firs step, calculate the average of the correlation matrix. In the second step, multiplies the average correlation matrix by the number of items (K). In the third step. In the third step, the average of the corelation matrix is multiplied by a subtraction of the number of items (K-1) and 1 is add. If you divide the value in second step by the value in third ste, you will get the Cronbach Alfa cofficient. But for validity, you need to do further analisys such as factor analisis, correlation between your results and a criterion. So you can use the correlation matrix for reliability and validity.
