Can someone share information about effect of UV treatment on the wettability of PMMA?
How repeatable is the procedure? Also once UV treated how long will the contact angle be retained typically? Also what kind of UV wavelengths are required?
The attached paper (Wei et al., Photochemically Patterned Poly(methyl methacrylate) Surfaces Used in the Fabrication of Microanalytical Devices, J. Phys. Chem. B, Vol. 109, No. 35, 2005) reports that the water contact angle on PMMA surfaces decreases from 70 degrees to 24 degrees after exposure to UV light as the result of the formation of carboxylic acid sites.
