I'm trying to use LINK11 to apply a force as if it was a cable pulling a structure twowards a point in ANSYS APDL.
When I solve the model, the deformation of the overall structure is far too small even though the forces in the link elements are correct (see attached files, run IEA15MW_Shell then setupbladetest (you will need to change working directory at the top of IEA15MW_shell).
Can anyone make any recommendations here? I guess maybe I have to set the element stiffness so that it is possible to compress the link to a small value within the initial length of the element (line 1427 in setupbladetest)?

Hi Peter,
in my experience, you only need the stiffness if you want to apply a specific change in the link11-element length.
For cable-forces pulling towards a winch (changing lenght of link11-element) you need a stiffness of zero or at least very low. With high stiffness it will act as a rigid truss, with the stiffness acting against the force.
When trying stiffness of 0 with your model it worked with linear geometry. The tip deflection was 1.15.
With NLGEOM,1 however, I ran into convergence issues. You might want to apply the loads in separate steps.
