Hello, I'm trying to navigate a biopac MP150 system, ECG data, and Acqknowledge for the first time, so I'd really appreciate some guidance.

I've broken question down so it's slightly easier to understand (and explain!).

I’m using:

Biopac MP150 unit and ECG100C system with Acqknowledge software, black box toolkit USB TTL module, Psychopy experimental software (running a task very similar to the digitalised Iowa gambling task).

I have used the TTL module to connect the Biopac so that when I run my experiment in Psychopy there are signals/markers which displays the period of time when a participant is making a specific decision on another ‘channel’ (eg the experiment starts and the channel is opened, then when they press a key the channel closes which tells me exactly which ‘part’ of the ECG corresponds to their ‘decision time’). This means I have sections of the ECG which are relevant to what I am studying (the heart rate variability during the decision time vs the time preceding the decision or a baseline measure of their ECG) which are marked on separate ‘channels’ to the ECG itself.

My goal is:

First, i’d like to figure out how I can locate and deal with artifacts in the data while keeping the signal markers in mind. I’ve seen a few guides explaining how to do this but they do not mention whether this process is different with the signals/markers in place from the TTL module and experiment.

Then, I’d like to work out how to get a measure of heart rate variability when considering the ‘decision time’ vs the baseline or non decision time.

Essentially, I want to computer heart rate changes by subtracting the mean HR activity in a person’s baseline from the mean HR activity during their ‘decision time’. I have no idea where to start with this! Any guidance would be appreciated.

I’d also like to split these outcomes based on the outcome of their decision (eg mean HR activity preceding a good decision and mean HR activity preceding a bad decision) however I’ll need to get a grasp on the basics first as it seems quite overwhelming.

Here are some examples of papers which have done something similar to my own project goals:

Thank you for any advice or guidance with this!! I am able to provide more information if needed.
