I’ve read some articles in which a 3-kD ultrafiltration membrane was used for removing free minerals (such as Fe) from a peptide solution that the molecular weight of some of its peptides was lower than 3kDa!

Since the molecular weight of some CPPs (Caseinophosphopeptides) is less than 3kDa, how a 3-kDa membrane could be applied for removing just free minerals?
