Is anyone aware of speaker identification software being used in a classroom setting to keep track of which students (among many) spoke during an hour-long discussion, and when? I would appreciate any citations or software recommendations.
I agree with Vehbi -- voice identification works best when the person speaking is close to the microphone and there is no background noise. I do not think the technology would be capable of dependable identification with one microphone covering an entire classroom.
You have certainly broached up a very interesting question. As you have rightly observed voice identification has been gaining traction in educational contexts since individuals of all abilities employ speech in order to link themselves with the existing technologies such as computers, handheld devices, navigation systems, gaming
consoles, and so on. As such, there is a great need for the students to be trained on speech interfaces, and as a result, educational contexts are relying on voice identification technologies more than ever before. A type of software highly recommended for your purpose is the Dragon Software, which is programmed to learn to identify the students' voices and provides accurate recognition results the more it is used.
