Actually i used the PTFE binder many time in my researches to prepare composite electrode from nano-diamond material and activated carbon during my work I read some data with different PTFE percent but latterly I used the percent i found suitable to make electrode hard and stable without effect on the conductivity. you have good point the conductivity of activated carbon is already high you can use high percent of PTFE in your work. Furthermore, I found the addition of carbon black to electrode mixture was increasing the electrode toughness and its conductivity whole that i did with try and error. Many students in the Lab. when i was working they used my technique of electrode preparing to achieve them work.

Thank you for your valuable suggestion. Actually, in my work, I have to use less than or equal 10% binder for making electrode. Every literature I found that they use 10% or less amount of binder. More than 10 % use of binder lowe the efficiency of the electrode. As the PTFE is dispersed in H20 that's why I am confused about the calculation Mohammed Ajeel

Abdelkader Dehbi Our lab bought 60wt% PTFE dispersed in H20. I have to use 10% of the binder for my electrode. But the amount of the binder is calculated only 6 microlitres. That is the confusion. Thanks

I use PTFE and carbon black too in our LAB. I discovered that 10 % of PTFE (60 wt% PTFE dispersion in H2O) is never enough to form a paste of the composite electrodes. In fact, you need a much higher % to be able to make a CB/PTFE composite electrode. Those who used such low ratios in literature might mean something hence which I do not understand or made a mistake in their report.

Simeon Meshach Imologie Thanks! When you mean by much higher % of PTFE, how much did you mean? 10 % of PTFE (60 wt% PTFE dispersion in H2O) is 66.7ul and so how much more did you add?

In the article, a new method was used to prepare electrodes for soil microbial fuel cells. Please check the supplementary document. The mass ratio of carbon black to binder before reinforcement is given in the supplementary document. I hope you find it useful.

Simeon Meshach Imologie Thanks much and yes, it did give me some idea about your calculation. But the AC:CB:binder ratio would clarify it better. May I know what it was (its not mentioned in the paper/SI, sorry if I missed finding)?

Azega Rajaras you are welcome. In the article mentioned, only CB and binders were used as we previously discovered that the AC was not necessary for the soil MFC using our new method (Pasting and reinforcement) to fabricate the electrodes.
