Looking for future prospect of nanotechnology in farming like use of a fertilizer made of nano-sized nitrogen molecules coated in a polymer coating that protects the fertilizer from the elements.
Definatly, there is urgent need to use such novel types ultrafine particles of fertilizer, which enahcnced the FUE and reduces the losses and avaoids pollution which caused by the indiscriminate use of fertilizer.
However, need to be adopt appropriate measures while application.
Nano-technology is making its way in agriculture throughout the world.Nanotechnology is a rapidly evolving field with the potential to take forward the agriculture and food industry with new tools which promise to increase food production in a sustainable manner and to protect crops from pests
Nanotechnology has been recognized by the European Commission as one of its six “Key Enabling Technologies” that contributes to sustainable competitiveness and growth in several fields of industrial applications underpinning the shift to a greener economy . Before beginning to deepen the analysis of the potential benefits of applying Nano science to agriculture, we have to answer the following question:
1. Nano-fertilizers
2. Nano-pesticides
3. Nano-sensors
Nanotechnology is an eco-friendly and cost effective technology for agriculture. It offers several benefits in agriculture such as detection of pathogens, delivery of Nano pesticides to the specific target sites, and enhanced absorption of nutrients in plants. The applications of nanotechnology have great potential to meet out the future agricultural challenges such as food security.
Conference Paper Application of Nanotechnology in Agriculture : Future Prospects
Nanotechnology has the potential to positively impact the agrifood sector, minimizing adverse effects of agricultural practices on environment and human health, improving food security and productivity while promoting social and economic equity. Please take a look at the following PDF attachments for more details.
Nanotechnology will revolutionize agriculture and food industry by innovation new techniques such as: Precision farming techniques, enhancing the ability of plants to absorb nutrients, more efficient and targeted use of inputs, disease detection and control diseases, withstand environmental pressures and effective.
Definitely, becouse of ultrfine particles it absorbed quickly in body parts of plants it may be fertilizer, pesticide etc. Which helpfully to act at targeted place where it is needed. The FUE is upto above 90% and in pesticide application is concern out goal of precision agriculture is also achieved. Resp.Dr Tarafdar sir already done lot of work where he reveals many secrets and facts about Nanotechnological applications in Agriculture.
Nanotechnology has potential role in future agricultural research. We need to establish the role of nanotechnology in soil-plant biochemical processes to harvest the maximum. It will be futile to say nanotechnology as such increases productivity.
Farmers are looking for any component which can increase productivity. Nanotechnology is an area which can move faster than other synthetics used. However, our responsibilities remain with the choice of nanotechnology/materials required for the cause. It should be area and crop specific. Work till date is very initial stage.
The use of nanotechnology in future agriculture will lead to excellent results as agricultural results will increase at high rates and also reduce the cost of agricultural production and will contribute to the production of excellent varieties of agricultural crops
Thanks Dr. Shakhatreh. Some people have started promoting nanomaterials few grams equivalent to huge quantities of chemical fertilizers. Scientific justification and criteria of essentially of plant nutrients should not be ignored.
As these fertilizer mostly recommended via foliar way and it shoes results becouse it assimilate very easily through foliar way, we need to fulfill constant supply of these via 2 to 3 spray in crop duration.
Sir, what I feel, we need hardcore research searching the science behind miracles of Nano-tech especially focusing on plant physiology. Definitely a few reviews utter that foliar application is good. We have to study soil, microbial activities and residual effects of applying nano-fert. Havoc research is needed. Then only we can recommend. Policy makers have to invest as it’s an unexplored arena in agrarian sector.
Nano sized fertilizers/supplements are easy to be taken up by the plants. It definitely would revolutionize the agriculture sector. HOwever, concerns pertaining to the nano-particles causing respiratory ailments in the farmers and human population do exist.
Yes, Dr Navnit, Biosafaty measures need to be adopt in application practices and awarness programms among the various workers. The actually which nano-particle are hazards that need to be evaluate before application.
Yes Dr Rajemahadik! Major concern is synthesis. What will be the best possible way-out? As I mentioned earlier that it should be come from bio-synthesis. Use of heavy metals as nano-coating is also a matter of concern. There are so many avenues to explore in this arena of science. Then only it could be recommended to the agrarian community.
Yes sir, now the time is to improve our USE EFFICIENCY in every input used in agriculture. this will be possible only in case of nanotechnological application.
Yes, Vaibhav, efficiency is a point. But not that nanotechnology and application of nanomaterials going to fulfill every requirement. Basic fundamentals of plant nutrition should not be ignored.
Precision farming techniques along with nano based formulations, kits, sensors and devices improves the yield of crop production without damaging the soil, water with minimal usage of pesticides and fertilizers and enhances the retention of nutrients in the soil through long term incorporation using soil microorganisms.
