Hello, I am Phd candidate and I want to study on environmental factors influencing Tugai forests (riparian forests of dry regions) located at Khouzestan province, Iran. I am looking for an underground water finder tool which is light and user friendly to record depth of water table in each plot. I would be grateful if any one introduce such tool to me. thanks?
There are mainly two may to find the groundwater: direct measurement and geophysical/electrical survey. Direct measurement includes the traditional borehole but I think that is not light because of the borehole machine. The other way is geophysical survey by "Vertical Electric Sounding Method" which measures the geoelectrical property of the ground and get the data for finding the groundwater (some introduce can be seen in the following link). I think this may be the lightest tool in this situation. My perspective is mainly based on geotechnic and hence you may expect better information from others.

Hello, you may consider using either a water diviner (some really experienced people) or MRS. I suggest you to read for example, Descloitre et al., JAES, 2013 and references herein. As RMS is primarily sensitive to water, it is well designed as a first tool in places where very few is known. However, it is sensitive to electrical perturbations and cannot be used in urban areas.
