I am looking to perform a statistical analysis to investigate the training load differences in playing positions across a training week .
Ie( what is the difference between defenders,midfielders,forwards on each training day across all the independent variables( training load , total distance , HSR....etc)
Dependent variables:
Playing positions : (Defender,Midfielder,Forward)
Match day Minus( MD-7,MD-6,MD-5,.....etc)
what is the best spss test to run.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
As I understand, your independent variable is Playing position, with 3 levels (defenders, midfielders, forwards) and you dependent variables are training load, total distance, HSR ... . These measures are repeated 7 times across a week (MD-7 .. MD-1). So, I think you have a factorail repeated measures design.

Yes, this could be handled with a split-plot ANOVA with one repeated and one between factor. Or you could use a hierarchical mixed effect model.
