Hi all,
I started working with Serratia entomophila and have noticed that early cultures form typical rods, but overnight cultures contain only smaller, oval bodies. Are those dormant stages similar to Bacillus spores?
I would be grateful if anybody could point me to further literature.

Hi Barbara, Serratia is a Gramnegative bacteria, so it should not be any type of spores. What you are observing is the typical morphological difference between exponential (bigger and rod-shape cells) and stationary phase, where cells are much more smaller and in many bacteria, even oval or spherical. That is normal. Nothing to worry about. I hope this helps.
