The oil spill attracted attention to the chemicals that are commonly used to combat oil pollution, namely, detergents (the other words that are near synonyms: surfactants, dispersants, surface-active agents, foams, washing liquids). Are these chemicals of environmental hazard? The answer was given in a relatively recent book - see below.
The first BOOK that discovered the ecological HAZARDS FROM SYNTHETIC DETERGENTS, issues of aquatic pollution by detergents, foams, dispersants, surfactants; links with water quality and self-purification: This is the first book that discovered the ecological hazards from synthetic detergents, washing liquids, shampoos and other foam-forming synthetic chemicals.
Title of the book:
‘Biological Effects of Surfactants’;
[the content of the book, in short: very new original data on ecohazards and ecotoxicology of surfactants, which are the major components of detergents, washing liquids; they pollute water]
