So, I am trying some Piezoresponse Force Microscopy measurements using the above-named equipment. For some time now, I have been unable to obtain the contact resonance of the tip when I have it on the sample of interest. I have followed the manual instructions:

Switch to PFM mode

Maximize SUM and Set deflection to -0.5V

Position head above the sample

Engage the surface

Tuning: This is where I am having a problem. The document says to use 3-5 times the nominal frequency of the tip and then systematically sweep. I have done this over an again, changing tips along the way (from 40N/m to 3N/m) to no avail.

Does anyone have insights/experience with this equipment and can share such?

PS: The only thing I have not done in the application manual is using a HV DC or AC cantilever holder. I really don't know if the stock holder is any of these. One thing I know is that it doesn't have the red wires that are said to differentiate the recommended holders.

Can the cantilever holder influence the acquisition of the contact resonance of the tip?
