As someone who has much more background in medicine than in mathematics, econometrics etc., I have become interested in the application of time series analysis in the medical field, particularly in epidemiology. I have gathered a huge amount of data on some infectious diseases, from 1994-2008, and I am interested in making a forecast model.

1. Can someone suggest what would be the best approach to systematically learn about time series analysis? What would be the prerequisites (eg. calculus?)

2. Can you suggest the best way that I can perform with the data attached and the best model that I can use? Visualizing the data, seasonality becomes visible, showing that the highest incidence appears to be in the winter time.

3. What is the main difference between classical mathematical modeling of infectious diseases using differential equations and time series analysis? What way provides better results?
