Far more women work in accounting. But accounting is still seen as predominantly male. Roles and gender bias in employment cannot be assessed by looking at simple participation measures; this is particularly so for accounting firms, where we generally observe women accounting for a large proportion of employees but a very small proportion of partners or directors. This asymmetry between women in non-senior versus senior positions seems consistent with the very modest presence of women in senior management positions and board positions in public companies.
While we might speculate as to reasons, there has been little rigorous research in this regard. We do know, however, that there has been little change over the last decade (in the business sector).
senior positions in accounting are overall still dominated by men, but there is no reason why women cannot fulfill those roles. It is not a gender bias but wether the person is willing to work at that level given the demands of the position.
In Poland, I suppose, the 'feminization' of accountant profession it's the result of 'feminization' of economic studies; definitely we can observe this trend here, that much more women choose studies in the field of accounting. In groups of students they represent 65-75% of students. I agree, that there has been little rigorous research in this regard...
I believe that you are looking for an answer to the various roles (men and women) who have in the economic system. The gender balance is not just a problem in the accounting area, but involves also other areas. Your interesting question might find some answers in the behavioral economics. Several studies have investigated on gender diversity.

Thank you Christian Adonis. I can understand a your viewpoint. But It seems there is here problems. I’m not sure we can do that against privilévio of men. Women need to be able to participate fully. In my tese identified subjective barriers. They are real!
