Yes it depends on sex-strain-age. Female will display lower BMD especially the older ones (classic signs of osteoporosis).

I am using 14 week old Wistar male rats that are approximately 400 grams and the tibial BMD ranges I got using in vivo pQCT were from 100 mg/cm3 to 260... It's really more relevant to compare to the animals' baseline.
