Former US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Tom Frieden said on Fox News that although the US is doing more testing and hospitals are better prepared, “this virus still has the upper hand.”
The increase in cases in Southern states is the result of reopening too fast and it “is going to continue to get worse for weeks,” Frieden said.
Frieden estimated that in the next month, the US will see at least 15,000 more deaths from Covid-19. He also said cases will continue to rise.
Latin America has more than 2 million cases and already lost more than 100,000 lives. South Asia is approaching towards 1 million cases although the deaths are less but under reporting is a major concern. Inadequate testing, tracing and poor health system can take them anywhere based on severity.
If the virus "still has the upper hand in the US" then, just imagine what might be the situation in Latin America and South Asia. Need to be united to make an urgent solution.

Coronavirus cases have been rising sharply in Latin American countries. Brazil has had more than one million confirmed cases - the second highest in the world. And researchers say these countries could be significantly under-reporting. Experts say the peak of the epidemic in some Latin American countries is still.

Certainly, the situation in Latin America and third world countries looks grim. As of today, over half million people have died and over 10 million cases worldwide.
Socioeconomic factors prevent people in poverty to have access to the means they need to overcome the basics: hygiene, access to masks, and treatment . Lack of strategic preventive measures are key as well on the part of the government that seem to have issues with capital and mismanagement of funds directed to basic needs such as health, housing, potable water, transportation and food. The disparity in the accessibility to health services, treatment, the lack of medical equipment in hospitals, and medicines are common denominators within the countries in Central and South America, not to mention corruption. The conglomeration of people in small spaces, does not help in preventing the spread of viruses such as the Coronavirus. So, governmental authorities at local , state and federal level must plan in a coordinating and unifying effort, organizing and developing strategic and practical instruments of implementation to see a reduction of the spread and deaths as a result of the current crisis.
I am Argentine, but I live and work in Brazil. The health situation is already a tragedy that is going to grow in dimension. Undoubtedly, a government that only thinks about business, like the one here, minimizes the pandemic and fosters an illusion of "normal" life. In Brazil it is very likely that, as in the United States, it will exceed one hundred thousand deaths. It's not by chance. Apparently the only two factors that help limit the tragedy are isolation coupled with a guaranteed decent basic income for the entire population. And at an economic level, support small businesses by forcing the financial sector to provide clearly accessible financing. In a financial capitalism like the one we have, there are very few governments that take these measures decisively. Those with a purely capitalist conviction succumb to the pressures of the big businessmen and open the doors to the massacre.
Hola. Creo que hay muchos factores que influyen. Vivo en Argentina y tengo familia en Usa, Italia y Colombia. Los políticos quizás usen al coronavirus para ampliar sus tentáculos y sacar ventaja, manipular más y tener más gente pobre e ignorante sometida. Pero creo que el otro 50% tiene que ver con la necedad y no con la pobreza. Con la falta de acato a las normas. Un lugar donde no se respeta ni se piensa en el prójimo sale peor parado de una pandemia como esta. Es un clásico Argentino, hecha la ley hecha la trampa. Vivo en edificio y bajan sin máscara a recibir correos y delivery. Que Dios nos ayude!!!
