The image humorously illustrates a perceived decline in the complexity of educational tasks over time, moving from calculating the area of irregular shapes to simply coloring a rectangle. This satirical portrayal sparks a conversation about potential shifts in educational focus and rigor across different eras.
Personally, when I saw this image, I situated myself first in the year 2000. I remember how challenging it was for me to solve a basic area problem at that time, given my limited knowledge from grade 6. My parents always had my back and pushed me to learn. I am still learning and do not belong to the digital/technological trend of today's world. Unfortunately, everything in education has changed with the objective of easing pupils learning. We are creating pupils who do not want to think. By 2025, their only task would be to draw a rectangle (a basic action verb). That's it.
Taher Abdel-Ghani Taher and others......Its very likely the image was prepared to make current teaching and learning ideas look lame. While the image and the website "eduGog.com" look real it more likely fake. The website has a nice home page picture but has zero content.
I suggest a more interesting question is why we're so quick to assume this is real and, in addition blame "education" for human failings. - --- Regardless, this "meme" is a great example of what my students create to make myself and my colleagues look foolish.
