Fisheries sector depends on culture and capture fishery. Culture fishery in confined Lake, pond, beel,jheel is under control of human where as capture fishery in freshbwatervriver system and in marine zone only helps to capture unlimited source of fish for human consumption. In this prolonged lock down phase natural water areas are unexplored for certain period. It will improve fish health and production of eggs and mature fish. Capture fishery also improves because it was also unexplored for certain period. Fish will grow and will give birth more eggs and transformation of eggs to mature fish will improve.

Part of the aquaculture production - that of carnivorous species - depends on protein-rich feeds, partially sourced from fishmeal from species that would also be fit for human consumption. As transfer efficiency from one trophic level to another is only about of wet weight, this means less overall production not an addition. Because fishmeal is scarce and relatively expensive, it has been largely replaced by soy, but soy does not contain all micronutrients needed for healthy fish growth. In West Africa the capture of small pelagic species (mackerel, sardines, sardinella, bonga shad etc) by Chinese and other industrial vessels for fishmeal is a direct threat to the small-scale fisheries that supplies low income populations along the coast and into the Sahel with these same fish species traditionally conditioned given the lack of refrigeration infrastructure. This is highly problematic.

Moreover the projected increase in production to meet broadly estimated demand of future human populations often focuses on aquaculture, while improved fisheries management would mean nature would provide a free meal. For European waters alone an independent study by Froese et al. in 2016 estimated 5 million tons of additional sustainable catch provided the EU Fisheries Common Policy's prohibition of overfishing were, finally, enforced (an almost 50% increase over local catches at the time)! Given FAO's estimate that there is barely any unexploited resources to move into, becoming real about stock rebuilding holds the greatest promise. The further good news: In a follow-up study presented 2017 to a hearing at the European Parliament Froese showed that recovery would even be possible by as little as 20% reduction in fishing effort, it would just take a little longer than more drastic measures: https://www.mundusmaris.org/index.php/en/review/other/1667-ep20170227

This is quite encouraging and also illustrates the exceedingly high cost of inaction.
