Initially we need an external source to activate the process and it can be a furnace. once the reaction starts for a sufficient time no external source is required.As the chemical reaction in fuel cell is exothermic in nature ,it produces heat and this heat can be further  utilized by proper designing of sofc stacks.Designing is done on the basis of optimisation of overall heat and mass flow rate.
