Looking to the future, the role of AI in dermatology is expected to expand. As machine learning models become more sophisticated and are trained on larger datasets, they will enhance predictive analytics, allowing for early detection of skin diseases. Additionally, AI could facilitate remote consultations through teledermatology, making specialist care more accessible.

Great question—AI is already reshaping dermatology, and its role is only set to grow.

At present, AI is mainly used to assist dermatologists in diagnosing skin conditions, especially skin cancers, by analyzing images with high accuracy. For example, Google's AI tool demonstrated accuracy comparable to dermatologists in detecting melanoma and other skin conditions (Esteva et al., Nature, 2017). Tools like SkinVision and DermAssist (by Google) are also helping users screen their skin at home using smartphone cameras.

Looking ahead, AI will likely become more integrated—offering real-time diagnostic support, treatment recommendations, and personalized care via apps and wearables. AI can reduce workload, streamline consultations, and improve access—especially in underserved or remote areas.

Importantly, AI isn’t replacing dermatologists but enhancing their capabilities—acting as a smart assistant that supports better, faster, and more consistent care.

AI is already transforming dermatology by enabling early detection of skin cancers, lesion classification, and chronic skin condition monitoring through image analysis. Deep learning models, especially CNNs and Siamese Networks, are used to evaluate asymmetry, border irregularity, and texture—providing dermatologists with faster, more consistent insights. The future points to real-time, mobile diagnostics, personalized treatment, and integration with telemedicine platforms.

In my research, I’ve developed AI models for medical image classification, including RegNet-based brain disease diagnosis and Siamese networks for retinal analysis. These same architectures are being adapted for dermatology—proving that AI-powered vision systems can bring precision, speed, and accessibility to skin health diagnostics
