You may need to be more specific about what you are interested in. There are many size parameters relevant to nuclei/nucleons: mass radius, charge radius, scattering lengths, etc. All of them typically have parameters of various sorts. Usually parameters have been set by fitting experimental data, though improved "first principles" methods have also been used as an approach.
