The interparticle spacing in precipitation hardening

Now, many papers have discussed the precipitation hardening, but seldom told us how they got the interparticle spacing.

Recenty, I read a lot of papers about it and found two kinds of interparticle spacing. One is the mean free path, which is the average distance between any particle and all its neighbours, the other one is the nearest-neighbour distances, which is the average distance between any particle and its closest neighbour. Their valuse are very different.

Therefore, which one should I use when I use the orowan model to calculate the strength?

I chosed to use the average of the square and diagonal obstacle spacing, which was conformed by computer calculation by Foreman et al (see attachments).
