As you all know it's a vast field of research. I would like to have your opinions in this regard. What will be the next of materials science? Which branches will do well and is critical than others?

Hello,
I believe that science is moving from continuum mechanics to particle mechanics. Here, depending on the size of the particles, I expect major breakthroughs across the whole range of particle sizes. Up to now, even particle mechanics in the micro to centimeter range is mostly modeled by continuum mechanics. Of course, with respect to the rapid development of DEM methods. This will allow the modelling of particles with respect to their sizes and the digitalization of the field. I wish you a lot of success in finding new properties of particles and their collectives.

Tough problem to solve - was never solved for Beryllium by USA's NASA.
Energy harvesting, active control and more research and development on sustainable materials is trends we already see and which may develop more in the future.
Low carbon fottprint materials, possibly high tech merged with traditional materials. More use of wood, and increased insights into its properties.
With the current interest in nuclear fusion, I feel there will be a lot of interest generated in the materials used in the general process of creating and generating power. The other area I think would be of interest is space travel. As elon musk has bought the cost of launches right down, all competitors (and musk) will want to explore materials as part of a cost reduction programme

a big challenge will be to overcome the penury of raw (critical) raw materials. Effective recycling technology will be decisive as well as materials with longer service life.
The world is going back to the new age of materials. It is my honest prediction that particles very much smaller than Nanos will have a profound effect on Engineering & Technology.. Newer materials and corresponding newer branches of Materials Science and Engineering are going to be the order of the day.
The challenge of designing miniature electronic systems integrated into the material structure has seemed almost insoluble until recently. Now there are accessible techniques of solving it due to the achievements of microelectronics and nanotechnology dealing with structural components as large as 0.1–100 nm. Therefore, the two key terms of the science of materials can be considered in the 21st century the ‘nano’ and biomimetics materials.
It resulted in the interdisciplinary infrastructure of the science of materials as the ‘smart’ materials, which are seemed as very effective in engineering and ecological sense.

The future of materials science and engineering is determined mostly by sucсess of computer design of structure of composites and computer design of corresponding technologies.
As the traditional sources of energy will become exhausted, an increasing attention in material science and engineering will be paid to the problems related with a nuclear fusion and the next generation fission processes. In the end this is the only feasible and reliable source of sufficient energy for the humankind.
Sadly, one of the most misused fields in research is material engineering. Mixing rice husk or banana or lollipops with sand or concrete and crushing 10000 samples followed by publishing a paper is of no value other than maintaining an academic degree, sadly. Optimizing the utilization of the materials, enhancing design methodology, and connecting the micro to macro behaviour, and such aspects are considered the real challenges, in my opinion.
A unified interpretation of the assemblage would be interesting. So many differences have already been sought and published that a reversal of course may occur and connections will be sought. This would simplify the micro and macro viewpoint on the structure of materials and the knowledge would be reversibly applicable. It is a big challenge and hints of solutions have been published in the past even if they have not been followed through. What is missing is a description of the state of matter between water/suspensions and solids.
