Thank you very much for your interesting question. Far from being an expert on the subject, I wanted to add some elements, so that they can be deepened and corrected by the researchers who deal with this problem.
After the passage from the industrial society to the knowledge society. In the latter, new terms such as sustainability, equal opportunities, equity, among other principles, stand out, highlighting the relevance of social development alongside productive development. In this context, the rapid advances in the integration between social and natural sciences are often highlighted, providing the comprehensive and multifunctional knowledge demanded by complex societies. It is known that, unlike the natural sciences, social knowledge has an additional challenge. Within it, a plurality of disciplines and methodologies predominate regarding how social knowledge is generated -in general terms, the individualistic and holistic paradigms are highlighted, which can be expressed in the dilemma of "who was the individual or the society before". Examples of interdisciplinarity in the contemporary world are presented in the fight against the COVID -19, in news items such as -forgive the subjective bias- "Medicine is not enough: why do we need social sciences to stop this pandemic" ( https://www.agenciasinc.es/Reportajes/La-medicina-no-basta-por-que-necesitamos-ciencias-sociales-para-frenar-esta-pandemia)

Muchas gracias por su interesante pregunta. Lejos de ser un experto en el tema, quería adicionar algunos elementos, de manera que sean profundizados y corregidos por los investigadores que abordan esta problemática.
Tras el pasaje de la sociedad industrial a la del conocimiento. En esta última se destacan nuevos términos como sustentabilidad, igualdad de oportunidades, equidad, entre otros principios, remarcando la relevancia del desarrollo social junto al productivo. En este contexto, se suele destacar los rápidos avances en la integración entre ciencias sociales y naturales, brindando un conocimiento integral y multifuncional que demanda las sociedades complejas. Es sabido que, a diferencia de las ciencias naturales, el conocimiento social tiene un desafío adicional. En su interior predomina una pluralidad de disciplinas y metodologías respecto a cómo se genera el conocimiento social –en términos generales, se destaca los paradigmas individualista y holista, que puede expresarse en la disyuntiva “quién fue antes el individuo o la sociedad”–.
