Merriam-Webster defines honesty as "fairness and straightforwardness of conduct" or "adherence to the facts."
The Oxford English Dictionary defines honesty as "the quality of being honest." Honest is, in turn, defined as "Free of deceit; truthful and sincere...Morally correct or virtuous...(attributive) Fairly earned, especially through hard work...(of an action) done with good intentions even if unsuccessful or misguided...(attributive) Simple, unpretentious, and unsophisticated.
In classical deductive logic, a consistent theory is one that does not contain a contradiction .
As a result, a teacher or researcher honest by nature and forever. He is not at odds with himself.
I am guess the honesty is much important than consistency because the accurate data surely result in acceptable and real consistency of the educational and scientific researches ,,, Best regards ,,, Jawad Ali
Academic honesty is an essential aspect of teaching where action is based on inquiry and reflection. To assist students in developing personal responsibility for learning, the school should employ the use of the approaches to learning (self-management skills, social skills, communication skills, thinking skills and research skills) across the curriculum to further develop the tools necessary to maintain academic honesty.
In my opinion, honesty is more linked to ethics and consistency with tenacity. The word Honesty comes from the Latin word honesty (honor, dignity, consideration of which one enjoys); it is the virtue that characterizes people for the respect to good customs, moral principles and other people's goods. It is the constant action of avoiding appropriating what belongs to us.
In the same way honesty is to harmonize words with deeds, it is to have identity and coherence to be proud of oneself. Honesty is a congruent way of living between what is thought and what is done, behaviour that is observed towards others and what is due is demanded of each person.
Honesty is a value, vital and essential to be able to live together in society, it guides all the actions and strategies of our activity, it is about being honest in words, intentions and actions. Being honest makes us honorable beings; to aspire to honesty is to seek greatness.
Both are important, one complementing the other to provide rigorous scientific research. Consistency in the search means the extent to which the meter gives close readings each time it is used. While honesty in scientific research can be defined as the accuracy of the research on the measurement of the purpose for which it is designed, that is, to what extent the research tool provides information related to the problem of research from the same study community.
Those are two terms with completely different meaning. Not only in research, these two qualities are important in different aspects of life - like education, service, social life etc.
