What is the best setup for reference management in large documents?
when I write shorter papers I am a very happy Zotero user. However, now I have a 300 pages book manuscript (MS Word, OSX, Google docs Chrome, Safari...) and reference management becomes unacceptably slow. I have turned off the automatic updates and it helps but it is not enough. What are you using?
Update: I might have found a work-around.
You can copy/paste both formatting and the Zotero field codes. Procedure:
1) In the master document, Make a selection of a big chunk text, 10-15 pages where Zotero is still fast. (If you work like me, you have made non-Zotero comments like "bla bla [REF Parsons] bla bla in the text]
2) Create an empty Word document.
3) Copy/paste the chunk into the new document. Keep the selection in the old document.
4) Cite via Zotero in the new document.
5) CTRL-A the new document
6) Paste it into the selection of the master content.
It seems to work, and it is fast. But still I am a bit "nervous" that I will run into problems when I am even deeper into the project, and being stuck in Zotero?
