I am what is called a ' senior' geophysicist.
I worked in Soviet Union with Leonid Brodov in 1980 about 3C seismic, shear waves ... and azimuthal anisotropy.
Even met with Gal'perin once.

The seismic anisotropy can be studied based on two general method. First is based on experimental measurements e.g. in tunnels and core samples.
The second way is study of seismic anisotropy based on the seismogram analysis of recorded earthquakes in seismic stations.
The first method have applications in engineering scale while the other one in crustal and wider scale.
