It depends on the child's age and how the family and school deal with him. Over-indulgence with the child at the first years of his life may aggravate this situation. Right dealing with the child and the adoption of the principle of reward and punishment(harmless)perhaps would limit this behavior.
In general, it is easy to give advise/s but it's difficult to follow them. We understand many advises with time. I think might be the wrong from our self when we try to give our advises to our children.
Generation gap was always there, but smart phones with internet connection, several electronic equipment and easy entertainments are easily available to the present generation. These are very much attractive to them. So, when they hear something against these attractions (may be called addictions), they become furious.
But all the present generation people (age group 12 - 25) are not like that. There are some people with different attitude. They are lesser in number than before, but they are there.

If we want children to listen to us and accept advice, we must give our children full membership in the family ، that must be aware of the matters affecting them and gradually become members of the family council and have full rights. Parents must also have the wisdom to choose topics for advice with their children that are appropriate to the development of children and their development.

Yet, discerning parents who make their children their friends, who are approachable, and are trusted gain the approval of their children. The ears of such children are sober and they hear the voice of their parents.
The extremely rapid evolution of societies and values, make it so hard for children to decelerate ! They are victims of or subject to behavioral mutation. We have vis a vis children different mind languages hence definition of the "Normal" behavior.
