How would you define "a sustainable investor"? Is there any publication which deals with this question? What makes an investor sustainable? I am curious about your feedback!
To sustain human life in the long run the investor needs to choose to invest only in viable technology, as defined by Georgescu-Roegen (see Gowdy & O'Hara, 1997: Weak sustainability and viable technologies). This way the ecological and social systems that sustain economic activity will be maintained instead of degraded. The financial return necessarily comes second. Personally I put this into action and still have financial capital gains, but when the gains are low or temporarily negative, I still enjoy the good feeling of knowing that my investments are used wisely for the common good.
Sustainable investors are defined as those who take into account environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors in investment decision making. The central belief is that ESG factors drives returns and leads to larger market capitalisation.
I have explored this subject quite a bit in my research. Attached link and we can discuss it further together.
