In different disciplines such as philosophy of mind, cognitive science,self organizing theories the mind boggling concept of emergence (all its ramifications included) has its peculiar meaning .How can relate "supervenience" to each of them (if they relate?) if yes under which criteria emergent and non-emergent properties ,in system's and disciplines,should be distinguished ?
It depends how one defines them, but one can define "Y strongly supervenes on X" as "X and Y, and X entails Y," and one can define "Y weakly emerges from X" in the same way.
Moreover, one can define "Y weakly supervenes on X" as "X and Y, and neither entails the other," and one can define "Y strongly emerges from X" similarly, as "X and Y, but X doesn't entail Y." Here weak supervenience implies strong emergence, but not vice versa.
