During informal conversations about nomothetic studies of suicide and large scale suicide prevention, I have perceived that several colleagues within the field of public health tend to consider such issues as a fringe theme in their area. In counterpart, colleagues in the field of suicidology often neglect nomothetic studies of suicide in favour of more idiographic approaches. In your opinion, is there a kind of taboo in considering suicide and suicide prevention as public health issues?
