Hi everyone,
I am looking for a good fluorescent AAV1-SYN to trace axons from the brain to the spinal cord.
It will be co-injected with another AAV1-SYN-eGFP, so -ideally- it should be red.
Our group has a mixed experience with mCherry in vivo, so I am also looking for other options.
Has anyone tried a mScarlet or another RFP one and is happy with it? Any other suggestion?

Which fluorophore would you prefer? Also, hSyn has medium expression which would also reduce your signal. We are developing an axonal viral vector using mScarlet which is working very well for LC neurons.
Hi Elise! The AAV-CAG-TdTomato (http://www.addgene.org/59462/) from addgene does an excellent job labelling axons. If your constraint is that it has to be AAV1 and from the Syn promoter, the turbo-RFP is OK: http://www.addgene.org/105552/
