World is in serious danger due to heavy use of plastics in product packaging. It is required to find eco friendly alternative of plastic as early as possible. Please suggest your opinion about how to fight against the giant "plastic "?
Frankly, once I read an article about using starchy materials to wrap sandwiches, the writer even commented that imagined you would eat the sandwich with its box. Here I think that using, for example, a fiber made from soybean flour may be beneficial.
Natural fiber composites come to mind. It makes use of the waste already generated from the plastics. The product formed can be useful in packaging thereby reducing the use of plastics. we can use a natural source packaging materials that known edible materials (edible coated film ) such as whey protein concentrate ,casein , guar gum , xanthan gum , gelatin ..... it is an environment friendly.
It depends on the application. Expanded polymers can be replaced by molded celulose pulp. Films can be made from starch based polymers. Foams can be made from natural fibers like coconut fiber. There is a lot of options for reusable bags and juice straws (textiles, paper, edible alternatives, biodegradable polymers,...). But the main problem is not the plastics but the education! Plastics are fabulous materials: versatile and cheap. But the users do not send them to proper destinations after using. We turned an educational problem into a technical problem. It seems the society considers that is easier to develop new materials than educate people.
