Substrate direction when synthesizing silica nanorods, deposition of catalysts?

When synthesizing silica nanorod using the sls method, (using pvp, pentanol, citrate, etc)

Does changing this direction change the number of drops that stick?

(assume changing the fto side so it's inward)
